·         Copper to Host Benefit for Shaping Our Summit at Tubing Zone — Saturday, April 7, 2001

Fun for the whole family!  On April 7, come use the tubing hill at Copper between 10:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and proceeds will go to benefit Shaping Our Summit.  Tickets can be purchased on April 7 at the Guest Services desk in Copper station. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 per hour thereafter.  For children under 13 the first hour is $6 and $4 per hour thereafter.  The best place to park is in the Alpine Lot.  Tubing begins at the top of each hour and will accommodate 75 people.  It is recommended that you arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to sign up and get your tube.  If you miss out there is plenty to do around Copper Mountain until your turn at the top of the next hour.  Make a day of it!  For the shortest lines and most runs, come before 3:00 p.m. or after 7:00 p.m.  For further information, please call 513-8340 x213.

·         Community Collaboration Award

The purpose of the Community Collaboration Award is to recognize and promote collaboration among business, non-profit, and government to create a healthier community.  Shaping Our Summit presents this award semi-annually and the next presentation will be made on June 28 at The Summit Foundation’s Spring Grant Presentation Reception at Beaver Run.  We define collaboration as working together to support collective goals and attain a shared vision; sharing people and resources; and co-laboring.  If you know of a collaboration between two or more organizations, businesses or agencies that results in an exceptional service or program for our community, please call 513-8340 x213 for a nomination form.  Nominations are due May 18, 2001.

·         Save the Date — Shaping Our Summit will host the 3rd Annual Make a Difference Day  Saturday, October 13, 2001

Volunteers are needed to help plan the event.  Meetings are the first Thursday of each month from 8:45-10:00 a.m.  For more information, please call 513-8340 x213.

·         Indicators of a Healthy Community:   Measuring Summit County’s Quality of Life 2000

This recently published report provides baseline information about economic, environmental and social aspects of our community’s well-being.  By creating a set of measurements that give us an assessment of the well being of our community, and then reporting on the status of these over time, we create a framework to monitor our quality of life and identify areas that need attention.  The report, therefore, serves as a resource to the community to respond to changing trends and to preserve the quality of life in our community.  The report is available on our website at www.shapingoursummit.org
