What We Do

*  Citizens Planning Academy – a seven-week course offered each fall to

provide citizens with an understanding of community planning and a roadmap

for how residents can participate in the decisions regarding planning,

growth and development.

 

*  Community Collaboration Award – a semi-annual award recognizing and

promoting collaboration among businesses, government and non-profits.

 

*  Community eGroup - an e-mail based system for efficient exchange of

information about community involvement opportunities, issues and events.

*  Community Forums, Neighborhood Meetings and Meeting Facilitation - Shaping our Summit

offers a range of facilitation and problem solving services that support involvement and collaboration.  These include:  Strategic Planning to increase effectiveness for non-profit organizations, Collaborative, Countywide Projects, Public Forums to allow a safe place for dialogue on controversial issues, and Process Design and Meeting Facilitation to assist governments in getting input from constituents, in general or on a specific issue.  For details please see our page on Facilitation Services.

 

*  Indicators of a Healthy Community: Measuring Summit County's Quality of

Life – a report to monitor quality of life and help the community identify priority areas for action.  View the 2000 report at:  Summit County Report.pdf

 

*  Community Orientation Video - for people new to the community.

 

 

 

*  Local's List - a guide to volunteering and activities in Summit County.  Please

click on the “Local Non Profits” link to the left.

 

*  Make a Difference Day – a national day of service celebrated annually in

October in Summit County by matching hundreds of volunteers with non-profits

and schools to complete action projects

 

 

*  Voter Information – non-partisan information on both sides of election issues in

newspaper and television format before each election.

 

*  “What’s Involved with Being Involved” – a program to educate students from

elementary through high school about how our community works and how to

participate; one session brings Summit County business, government and

non-profit leaders into the classroom to provide for an exchange of

information and views between local youth and adults.
