MEETING MINUTES  May 8, 2007

The meeting, held at Tivoli Gardens in Sun City, was called to order by President Burt Todd at 7:55 a.m. There were 30 in attendance. Burt gave a quick report about the ride to Texas that Bill Pritchett led last month. The only problem that was encountered was that Bill had a minor disagreement with his fancy new GPS and they had to make one turn around. He also thanked Roy Merriot for the lunch at Beardsley Park that he provided for the riders of yesterday’s Wednesday ride. He announced that there were a lot of rosters that haven’t been picked up. There will no longer be a blanket mailing of the rosters so you need to pick one up at a club meeting or have a friend get one for you.

Treasurer's Report: Carol Pritchett

The balance carried over from last month was $1243.13. Monies taken in were as follows: Raffle -- $24.00, Membership -- $10.00. The balance carried over was $1277.13 as of April, 2007. It was moved and seconded to accept the treasurer’s report; there was no discussion and the report was accepted as given.

Safety Report: Roy Merriott

Roy said that everybody was doing good so there was nothing new to report.

Website/Newsletter: Bruce McVay

Bruce reported that the website and the newsletter were going well. There was one problem that has cropped up and that is the name for the website. When telling other riders how to find out information about our rides, the website is difficult to remember. Bruce will be working this summer on a solution for this problem. Another problem is the difficulty of typing a long name, especially for hunt-and-peck typists. He’s thinking of changing the name to powerriders.org since powerriders.com is already taken by a riding lawn mower company. Roy Merriott suggested that he put instructions of how to put an icon on the screen for the website so that you just have to click on the icon and it will open the website. Bruce agreed to do that, but mentioned that we could add it to our favorites (even if it isn’t your favorite) for easy access. Bruce also mentioned that when you’ve been on a ride and have pictures to share, just email them so he can put them on the website.

Ride Report: Bill Pritchett

Bill said that Burt ruined his story because Bill wanted to report that when Dave and Bev Simons joined them in Texas, she told him that it was the first time they had ever had to turn around. He then thanked last months ride leaders. Jim Hudson led two of them, Paul Griglio, and Roy Merriott. Those that are scheduled for the future are Wayne Jugenheimer, McVays (Oct. 24), Jerry Rieker (has been volunteered), Burt Todd (Nov. 7), Bob Johnson (Turkey Run Nov. 14), Bill & Carol Pritchett (Nov. 21). Bill will not be here for the October 2007 meeting so he will need volunteers for the Nov. 28 and Dec. 5 rides. Bob Johnson also announced that the Turkey Run trophy has been updated with engraved names so it is really something that everyone will want to win! If anyone wants to go for a ride on Sunday, Bill Pritchett announced that they are welcome to join him and Carol as they leave for Colorado. They will be leaving at 4 A.M.! Bob Kerns announced that tomorrow will be the last Ladies Choice ride for the summer. It will leave at 7 am.

Social Concerns: Bevie Taylor reported that they were to have lunch with the Hooks yesterday but they didn’t show up. Later Helen contacted her to say that Verne had gone in to take a nap and when she woke him he was unable to walk or talk. He was taken to Boswell Hospital and they found that his blood sugar level was down to 37. They were to give him treatment for 2 to 3 hours and then he would be able to go home last night. Bob Kerns reported that Dave Jackson has a detached retina and will be staying in the area for part of the summer.

Other Business: Marabeth McVay gave a report on the Pig Roast which will be held October 23, 2007 at the Youngtown Park, so mark your calendars. It will be late afternoon and will cost about $14 per person. Everything will be provided except your BYOB and snacks for Happy Hour. Plates and set ups are provided by the people roasting the pig. Jerry VanWoudenberg will run the auction which will consist of motorcycle stuff and gifts (in excellent condition) that you would like to donate to this cause. The last day for collecting the money will be at the October 11, 2007 club meeting, but if you know for sure that you are going, please let the Yadros or McVays know. Since our treasurer and president will both be gone most of the summer, checks may not be deposited until September. As new information is available it will be posted on the website. For those of you who have your newsletter mailed, this will be the last one mailed until after the October meeting. Burt requested permission to bring the old battery operated megaphone and stand that the club once used to the auction or otherwise sell it. It was moved and seconded and passed that Burt should be given such permission. Bob Johnson wondered if picking a date a couple of weeks later would solve any of the time constraint problems. Marabeth said that other problems were created by doing that, for example, the fact that it gets dark earlier. Bob Johnson also mentioned that he had been at the park last week and suggested that you might want to bring lawn chairs, especially for the auction, as they would be more comfortable that sitting on picnic benches. Marabeth assured us that such details will be taken care of, but right now she is just publicizing the event.

Name Tags: Bob Johnson

Bob asked if anyone knew Bob & Charlotte Allen. He’s had their name tags for almost a year now. No one could give him any information.

Old Business: Jim Hardwick thanked the McVays for getting last month’s newsletter out so quickly considering the fact that the Texas trip left only 3 days after the meeting.

New Business: None

50/50: Greg Jones

A sum of $18 was given to the club and there were 3 winners of $6 each: John Elmgren, Lester Cole, and Bevie Taylor. Burt reminded everyone that this was the last official meeting until October, however, there are informal gatherings the second Tuesday of the month at 8 a.m. in the regular dining room and you order off the menu. It was moved, seconded, and carried that the meeting be adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Margaret Johnson
