Horses were used for transportation long before the automobile arrived in the Summit County and Vail Valley. From the early gold mining days to the cowboy era the horse has been an important asset for many years in the Colorado Rockies. Today, the west lives in the Colorado high country where you too can relive those days past.

Saddle up for a ride through wildflower meadows, quiet forests and gurgling streams. A number of stables throughout the area offer guided trips on gentle horses. Tours on horseback through Summit County and the Vail Valley range from one hour trail rides to cowboy breakfast rides, dinner rides and all-day excursions to several day pack trips. Specialty trips include cowboy breakfast rides, dinner rides and privatly arranged outings. Pony rides for kids are also available at some stables.
